JOSEPH PHILLIPS, born March 19, 1837, in Germany; came to America in 1852 and worked on the lakes for two years, and then settled in Oregon Township, Lucas County, in 1854, where he has remained since. Married, in 1861, to Vholene Helping. Have had nine children, two of whom are dead. Enlisted in 55th Regiment Ohio Infantry and served one year during the War of the Rebellion. He is a farmer.
