Mrs. Averitt of Dora, Alabama, is the daughter of H. A. Shepherd (foster father) and Hattie Shepherd. She is the granddaughter of Henry Shepherd and Harriet Hayes Shepherd.
She became the bride of Mr. George Averitt in Dora, Alabama, May 27, 1926. They have no children. She has no other relatives.
Mrs. Averitt is a member of the First Baptist Church, Dora, Ala., Walker County Community Concert Association, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Anne Hutchinson Study Club, Wild Life Federation and P.T.A.
She has held the following offices: Past president of the Alabama Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Anne Hutchinson Club, member of the Board of Directors of Walker County Community Concert Association, Walker County Chapter of the National Foundation of Infantile Paralysis, State Membership Chairman of Alabama Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Education and Vocation and Vice President of the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs.
Her present publications are: Member of the Directors of Walker County Dept. of Public Welfare, Community Concert Assn., member of Past Presidents Council of B. and P. W. Clubs for State, historical committee of B. and P. W. Club for State, Program Chairman W.M. U. of Baptist Church, member of Standing Committee on Community Christmas Lighting and Chairman of Bloodmobile program in the community.
She attended Dora Grammar School, Montevallo High School, received the AB degree from Judson College and has done graduate work at the University of Alabama, University of Pennsylvania, and University of Delaware. She is the assistant manager of Dora Motor Company. Her husband has a business of his own and is in real estate business.
Her hobbies are antiques and needlepoint. She has visited the usual points in the states of interest to tourists.
